Corfu Island is one of the Ionian Islands. Corfu covers an area of 580 square kilometers, population: 107.87. It is the 2nd~largest island in the Ionian Islands, Corfu and the mainland across the insulation. This island is the site of the Ionian University. United Kingdom's Queen Elizabeth II's husband Prince Philip was born on this island.

Corfu Island once was the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire and governance by the people of Genoa and Venice. Republic of Venice ruled the island from 1401. Corfu Island is said "Venice Portal". Turkey repeated aggression against the island. Like 1537, 1571, 1573 and 1716 Turkey Navy and army had laid siege to the island, but all end in failure. Corfu Island could be considered a bastion of resistance to Western civilization.
